High Triglycerides Increase the Risk of Stroke

Ischemic stroke generally results when an artery to the brain is blocked. The recent study shows that high triglycerides increase the risk of ischemic stroke.

The researchers of Copenhagen found the relationship between non-fasting triglycerides and ischemic stroke. 6,372 men and 7,579 women were participated in this study.  The scientists observed that higher the intake of triglycerides, the greater the risk of stroke in both men and women. Only men have greater stroke risk with higher cholesterol levels.

Normally triglyceride levels increase with the age. Other causes are certain medications, heredity, high calorie diet and highly processed foods. Foods like red meat, organ meat, dairy products and processed foods that contain high fructose corn syrup and MSG increase triglyceride levels in the blood. The stressful life is also another cause for high triglycerides.

The ideal way is to reduce the risk by taking foods that are rich in antioxidants like fruits and vegetables. Fiber rich foods and nuts are also beneficial. Leading stress free life is important. And exercise helps in relieving stress.
